GETTING TO THE COTTAGE

Option A - Drive

(The Long Way)

How long this will take depends on a number of factors such as:

  1. where you are leaving from

  2. day and time of day

  3. Traffic and or road conditions

  4. how fast you drive without being caught by police.

Option B

Drive / Ferry

The drive - ferry option is our preferred route and involves:

  1. A reasonable drive to Tobermory where you park your car an hour in advance of sailing (half hour if you have mid-day preferred reservations)

  2. The crossing takes 1 hour 45 minute crossing (time enough for a meal, drink and relax).

  3. The cottage is another 30 minute ride through country roads to the cottage.

FROM BRANTFORD

  • Highway 403 to 427 north and then to 401 East

  • Take Highway #400 (which turns into #69) north to highway #17 ( south of Sudbury ) and take #17 west exit towards Sault St. Marie

  • After about 40 minutes you will come to McKerrow where just past you will take the Highway #6 (Espanola - Manitoulin) exit. Drive 30 minutes to Little Current

  • When you reach Little Current, take the Highway# 540 towards Gore Bay.

  • Drive 16 kilometers from Little Current on Highway # 540 and when you are on a long straight section of the highway, look for a sigh "Bayshore Road" on the right side of the road.

  • Take the exit and when you come to the "T" in the road, turn left.

  • We are nearly at the end of the road at #318 and marked by a rural mail box with the names "LOCKYER & NICOL" on it. Take this entrance.

FROM BRANTFORD
  • Take highway # 6 to Tobermory where you will take Ontario Northland's Chi-Cheemaun Ferry for an hour and 45 minute ferry ride. Reservations (On-line or by telephone) are "highly recommended" and make sure to arrive at least one hour prior to sailing.

  • After getting off the ferry, keep on highway #6 until you pass Manitowaning. Approximately 3 miles past, you will come to a sharp bend in the highway, turn left on BIDWELL ROAD (there will be a number of resort signs such as Red Lodge or Holiday Haven marking the turn). Take the next approximate 30 mile of winding road and always keep to the left on the main road (no right turns)

  • When you reach Highway #540, turn right heading towards Little Current. It is approximately 5 miles to the cottage turnoff. You will know you are close when you go down a steep hill (fantastic view of the North Channel and La Cloche Mountains). Make a sharp turn in the road and come along to a long straight stretch (we are approximately 2 miles past the sharp turn).

  • Turn left on BAYSHORE ROAD. At the "T", turn left. If you come at night, the sign has a reflector type to signal the turn off. Go to #318 Bayshore Road.
